There are good and freeware utilities around that can recover your WinSock and internet connection.

For Windows XP there’s a Winsock XP Fix utility.

And for Windows 98/ME you may use Winsock2 Fix.

If you use a static IP address then you will have to manually reconfigure it after running this utility, but if you have a dynamic IP address then it will be automatically reconfigured by DHCP server.

If you need more control over WinSock functions you may try LSP-Fix. LSP-Fix

Another good tool that will help you to find a malware is HiJackThis. hijackthis

After analysis send a log file to online analyzer. Don’t rely 100% percent on analyzer though, good technical skills from your side are very important!
